The rules and regulations around health and safety at work can be complicated, but of course, they’re there for a good reason too. The Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 (also referred to as HSWA, the HSW Act, the 1974 Act or HASAWA) is the primary piece of legislation covering occupational health and safety in Great Britain. The Health and Safety Executive, with local authorities (and other enforcing authorities) is responsible for enforcing the Act and a number of other Acts and Statutory Instruments relevant to the working environment. The full text of the Act (as amended) is available at legislation.gov.uk [1] where it can also be downloaded free of charge. Fewer people than ever are injured at work these days, the result of all of us taking health and safety as seriously as we should. But it’s hard to get right and the law is demanding, especially for a small business owner. Failure to comply with these requirements can have serious consequences – for both organisations and individuals. Sanctions include fines, imprisonment and disqualification!!! That’s where OMS can help. This Level 2 Award in Health and Safety is VTCT qualification for Salons is a small award that has been specifically designed for existing therapists, hairdressers, barbers, salon workers, salon, managers/owners, college lecturers and assessors working in the hair and beauty industry. This qualification can be used to update your existing health and safety knowledge to ensure you are compliant with current legislation.
